How to plan a wedding photography timeline that actually works
Most timelines break in the same three places. Here is how to build one that survives contact with the day itself.
Almost every timeline we are sent has the same three weak points, and almost every one of them is fixable in ten minutes.
Getting ready takes longer than anyone plans
Hair and makeup nearly always run over. Build in forty-five minutes of slack before you need to be dressed. If it is not used, you get a quiet moment with your family instead, and those are often the photographs you keep.
The light is not negotiable
In Sri Lanka the best light falls in the last ninety minutes before sunset. If couple portraits are scheduled at noon, we are working in hard overhead sun. Twenty minutes stolen at golden hour will outperform an hour at any other time of day.
Leave room after the ceremony
The stretch straight after the poruwa is when greetings happen, and greetings run long. Give it thirty minutes more than feels necessary.
Send us your draft timeline before you finalise it. We have seen a few hundred of them and the fixes are usually small.
